When Goh Swee Joo was elected the second Chairman in 1976, the activities of the Association began to increase in momentum, As such, he felt the need to have our own building for such purposes. In 1978 the building fund-raising committee was formed. Under the leadership of the Chairman, our members and other trade associates donated generously and the total donations reached RM1.3 million. It was indeed a great achievement and thus the association was able to purchase with case two adjacent 4 ?storey shop houses in the heart of the city.
On 6th June 1987, when the Association celebrated its 17th Anniversary, in conjunction with the official opening ceremony of the association premises, we invited the then Deputy Minister of trade and industry Datuk Kok Wee Kiat, the former MP of Bukit Bintang Lee Lam Thye, the President of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tan Sri Ng Tok Sai, the former Chairman of Tan Chong and Sons Motor Bhd., the late Tan Sri Datuk Tan Yuet Foh,t the Chairman of United Industries Sdn. Bhd., the late Alex Ng Hong Yee JP, the Chairman of the Organising Committee Yap Swee Leong and the Association's Chairman Goh Swee Joo to perform the Ribbon-cutting Ceremony.
At night a grand dinner was held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) attended by almost 1,300 guests and members. We had the honour of the presence of our beloved formal Prime Minister, Tun Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and his wife, Datin Seri Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali as our VIP Guest.
