A brief history of EMPTA

The Structure of the Association | To Promote And Protect Our Rights
Stepping Forward | Association's Own Buildings

The Selangor and Federal Territory Engineering and Motor Parts Traders' Association (EMPTA), whose original name was "Selangor Motor Parts Traders' Association", now comprises traders of motor cars, motor cycles, lorry and tractor spare parts. With the formation of the Federal Territory , its earlier name was changed to "Selangor and Federal Territory Motor Parts Traders' Association" in 1983. To reflect the complex nature of the trade of our members in the course of time, the Annual General meetig in 1988 resolved and approved the next change of name to "Selangor and Federal Territory Engineering and Motor Parts Traders' Association".

Early Formation of the Association
On 1st April 1970 nine founder members, namely Goh Swee Joo, Tan Chee Teck, Ng Geok Tian and the late Ong Ah Chan, Datuk Tan Chee Hoe, Tan Yew Teong, Tan Kong King, Tan Kok Cheng and Tan King Hah met over lunch and agreed to form an Association to liaise with members of the trade:

  • To promote friendship and goodwill
  • To protect the interest of all concerned
  • To plan collectively the future development of the trade
  • To resolve effectively any problems faced by the members themselves.

Through the untiring efforts put in by members of he Organizing Committee, the association was formally approved by the registrar of societies on 20th October 1970. the first executive committee (EXCO) was formed on month later and the official inauguration ceremony was held on 1st January 1971 with grandeur.
